It amazes me to watch the interactions between Cheyenne and her puppies as they grow. This week she has begun the weaning process and is teaching them that "No means NO!" While they chase after her to nurse on the run or create a new way to reach her milk, she is teaching them that there is a time for everything. It is not ALWAYS time to nurse. She has more to offer than only food.
The pups are (slowly) learning to respond to her discipline, and in doing so, learning respect.
Yet incredibly, I see something new emerge. It is tender, loving, and beautiful. After telling her pups "No nurse now," Cheyenne is saying "Yes" to something else. It is relationship.
"Come on, kids, let's play!" Thus, she assumes her playful stance, noses her pup, and engages them in play.
How interesting the opportunity to view and learn these lessons through watching precious puppies!
